Pop singer Grimes and space tech mogul Elon Musk have been one of the celebrity world’s strangest couple combinations, but it seemed to work. Now, however, the superstar couple have reportedly called it quits.
Elon Musk spoke to celebrity news outlet Page Six to clarify the stars’ “semi-separated” situation. The tech billionaire described conflicting work schedules as a large part of what has come between the couple: “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA.”
Musk, age 50, founded SpaceX in 2002, and continues his work to make the company the first to offer commercial space flights to the general public. Grimes, age 33, is the artist name of Canadian singer Claire Elise Boucher, who rose to prominent fame in the electronic music world just over half a decade ago. Together they plan to continue to co-parent their one year old son, X Æ A-Xii Musk, who they fondly call ‘Baby X’ for short.
“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” Musk told Page Six. He went on to say that Grimes and Baby X were even staying with him currently, reinforcing that the separation is indeed amicable and only partial. The pair have been together just over three years, after Musk first reached out to Grimes via Twitter.
Grimes has been vocal about the joy her recent first child has brought her. At the Met Gala earlier this September, she told Vogue giving birth to her first child had resparked her creatively. Musk meanwhile has five children from his previous marriage to author Justine Wilson. All Musk’s previous children have been sons, including 17 year old twins Griffin and Xavier, and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai, all 15.
